Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changelings, Book 7) - Nalini Singh

Blurb~
Dev Santos discovers her unconscious and battered, with no memory of who she is. All she knows is that she’s dangerous. Charged with protecting his people’s most vulnerable secrets, Dev is duty-bound to eliminate all threats. It’s a task he’s never hesitated to complete…until he finds himself drawn to a woman who might yet prove the enemy’s most insidious weapon.

Stripped of her memories by a shadowy oppressor, and programmed to carry out cold-blooded murder, Katya Haas is fighting desperately for her sanity itself. Her only hope is Dev. But how can she expect to gain the trust of a man who could very well be her next target? For in this game, one must die…

Nalini Singh...who could ask for more?!?!? Blaze of Memory is the 7th book in the Psy/Changeling Series and boy this woman does NOT let down ;)

Dev Santos is the head of the Shine Foundation. The foundation helps human kids that have a touch of Psy abilities. Dev works hard for these kids knowing what they are going through b/c he is one of them. At the foundation, Dev has no time for play or women...until one gets dropped off unconscious in his front yard.

Katya wakes up to Dev asking her questions she can't answer...even forgets who she is. Scared and alone Katya is very different from the Psy we've all met before. She seems not to mind feelings or touch as much as her fellow Psy. Although Katya is scared and frightened she is a strong woman wanting to fight against the dreaded Ming LeBon. LeBon has been torturing Katya and she fears she was sent to Dev for a certain purpose...what that purpose is...she can't remember. As feelings strengthen Katya's memories grow strong and she soon realizes she basically living out a death sentence. Knowing Katya can finish her mission and die at any second scares Dev! This turns into a race of time! Can Dev save Katya before she finishes out her mission that very well could be to bring down the Shine Foundation or even worse...kill Dev?

I loved this book! Like many Psy/Changeling books it jumps right in with the action and romance! Dev and Katya are such a special couple and I found myself rooting for them from start to finish! I read around and seen that some people didn't care for this couple but for me it was perfect! Dev isn't a changeling (and normally I prefer my hero's in this series to be) but boy is he just as fierce as any animal out there! He protect Katya and every cost! An this just didn't happen once they became more acquainted...it was from the start! =) I loved it!

And like all the other books in this series we go deeper into the world that is the Psy! I never find myself bored reading about Psy b/c they are ruthless killers that keep your attention! Ming LeBon is among one of the few I've wanted to get his and let me tell you...if you've been waiting for him to get his snotty butt kicked...well you wait no longer! Punk totally got served in this book! lol I was happy with the ending (even though some may object).

Lastly I have to say (once again) that I love how NS keeps you "part of the pack" by letting you back into the lives of all the past couples. I always love visiting my favs from past books and seeing where they are in their lives. Oh and I wont say b/c it would be a spoiler BUT for those of you that have read it...how about the surprise at the end...->highlight this spoiler-> I loved the kids bringing her back! I was totally excited b/c I feel like this is digging even deeper and opening doors for us to figure out new things with the Changelings and Psy that they weren't even aware of!

Over all this book was wonderful and I'm seriously counting down the days for the next drop of some Psy/Changeling goodness! ;)

Snippet~
“Tell me.”

She swallowed the blood on her tongue. “I’ve told you everything. You’ve taken everything.”

Eyes as black as night with a bare few flecks of white stared down at her as mental fingers spread in her mind, thrusting, clawing, destroying. She swallowed a scream, bit another line in her tongue.

“Yes,” her torturer said. “It does seem as if I’ve stripped you of all your secrets.”

She didn’t respond, didn’t relax. He’d done this before. So many times. But the next minute, the questions would begin again. She didn’t know what he wanted, didn’t know what he searched for. All she knew was that she’d broken. There was nothing left in her now. She was cracked, shattered, gone.

“Now,” he said, in that same, always-patient voice. “Tell me about the experiments.”

She opened her mouth and repeated what she’d already confessed over and over again. “We doctored the results.” He’d known that from the start; that was no betrayal. “We never gave you the actual data.”

“Tell me the truth. Tell me what you found.”

Those fingers gouged mercilessly at her brain, shooting red fire that threatened to obliterate her very self. She couldn’t hold on, couldn’t protect them, couldn’t even protect herself—because through it all he sat, a large black spider within her mind, watching, learning, knowing. In the end, he took her secrets, her honor, her loyalty, and when he was done, the only thing she remembered was the rich copper scent of blood.

I give this book a total of...

Dying to Please - Linda Howard

Blurb~
When Sarah Stevens, butler and bodyguard extraordinaire, foils a robbery, she could not have predicted either the tragic chain of events that would be set in motion or detective Thomas Cahill, who responded to the first crime scene. Sarah intrigued, attracted, and aroused him, but his first marriage had dissolved in livid disgust, making him all too wary. Sarah is equally frightened of her feelings for him; she had never before felt so deeply. It might have been bliss had Sarah's employers not developed a habit of dying by murder.

This story, aided by Howard's descriptive narrative, translates well to audio, with evocative visual images cascading through every scene. The author also writes the most erotic lovemaking in the business, which Susan Ericksen handles with aplomb.

*giggles like a little girl...ok ok Ive had it. I dont know if I can do audio books anymore!!! The voices are NEVER right and they simply CRACK ME UP! So furthermore I wont judge the book by its reader (Im not hating on her I just think Im better off making the voices up in my head as I read) but by its content! ;)

Sarah Stevens is a bodyguard/butler for a old geezer that she adores to no end. She likes her simple life and has a plan to one day travel the world! Sarah makes good money, has one day off a week, her own living quarters and a nice fat paycheck...one thing she doesn't have (and doesn't really want) is love. But that's ok with her...things are going swimmingly...until there's a break in and Sarah meets the hothead detective Thomas Cahill.

Cahill can tell Sarah isn't the usual butler...heck she's a WOMAN butler...that right there proves her to be one of a kind. He reluctantly keeps his paws to himself after questioning her but little did he know their paths are soon to meet again. One day Sarah comes home to kind her employers and dear friend shot in the head! She frantically calls Cahill and the investigation starts.

Cahill can't help but wonder if Sarah had anything to do with this murder...even more so when her NEW employer and his wife end up dead! But once Cahill and Sarah get close there's trust that should shine through...right...??? Does Cahill REALLY think Sarah could have anything to do with her employers bodies showing up with holes in their heads? Do the murders have anything to do with the mysterious and expensive gift Sarah received in the mail???

This story was a hoot! The characters pissed you off, lit you on fire, then drenched you with water to cool you off!!!! Oh and btw those are all good things here! ;) This story if jam packed with action, murder, romance...and you even get a glimpse of a killers mind. Don't pass over this book b/c it seems all mystery/murder b/c you'll be sorry! This IS Linda Howard after all and shes one hot romance writer! So go out and get this one!

Hopefully this review left you DYING to buy the book! lol (<- cheesy I know...but I just had to ;p)

Random Excitement Friday

Maybe This Time
"In stores on August 31, 2010"

Previously titled Always Kiss Me Goodnight, this is Jenny’s version of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw. (The Turn of the Screw is a novella (short novel) written by Henry James. Originally published in 1898, it is ostensibly a ghost story. Due to its ambiguous content, it became a favorite text of New Criticism.

The novella has had many differing interpretations, often mutually exclusive, including those of a Freudian nature. Many critics have tried to determine the exact nature of the evil that is spoken of in the story.

The Turn of the Screw has lent itself well to operatic and film adaptation.)

Blurb~
Andie Miller is ready to move on in life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her before they go their separate ways forever. A very distant cousin of his has died and left North as the guardian of two orphans who have driven out three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs a very special person to take care of the situation and he knows Andie can handle anything.

When Andie meets the two children she quickly realizes things are much worse than she feared. The place is a mess, the children, Carter and Alice, aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. What’s worse, Andie’s fiancé thinks this is all a plan by North to get Andie back, and he may be right. Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting.

What follows is a hilarious adventure in exorcism, including a self-doubting parapsychologist, an annoyed medium, her Tarot-card reading mother, an avenging ex-mother-inlaw, and, of course, her jealous fiancé. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get more complicated, North shows up on the doorstep making her wonder if maybe this time things could be different between them.

If Andie can just get rid of all the guests and ghosts, she’s pretty sure she can save the kids, and herself, from the past. But fate might just have another thing in mind…

I love Jenny Crusie and I've been craving one of her funny/love/mystery type books here for a while. I think we can all agree that Jenny has her own voice out there and every time you read one of her books you can't help but smile! So come August Ill be elbowing in the book stores to grab this one! =)

Strange Bedpersons - Jennifer Crusie

Blurb~
Tess Newhart knows her ex-boyfriend Nick Jamieson isn't the right guy for her. He's caviar and champagne; she's take-out Chinese pot stickers. He's an uptight Republican lawyer; she was raised in a commune. He wants to get ahead in business; she just wants…him. But there's no way Tess will play second fiddle to his job.

Yet somehow she finds herself agreeing to play his fiancée on a weekend business trip that could make or break Nick's career. And while he's trying to convince Tess that he needs her in his respectable world, Tess is doing her best to keep her opinions to herself and her hands off Nick.

Everyone knows I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Crusie...but to me this book was a bit of a hiccup. =/ I must say the biggest thing I have to complain about...to me its like a low budget Cinderella Deal. If you read my review of The Cinderella Deal you'll see that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Strange Bedpersons however is just short of enjoyment in my eyes!

So like I said these two stories are VERY similar...Originally brought together by quirky similarities one weekend things quickly took a turn for the worse when Tess noticed Nick being solely driven by his need to make partner with his law firm. Tess broke things off yet a very persistent Nick needs her help.

Nick needs Tess...Tess has a heart too big for her britches and decides to help her ex impress his boss by playing the fiance. Obviously things unfold...Nick is uptight, Tess is outgoing yet they fall for each other. But can Nick let go of the drive to be MORE? Will Tess let her heart fall again for a man that could very well want to change everything she is and stands for???

Was this book good...well ya, it was ok to me. I mean it's Jenny Crusie after all. BUT BUT BUT bc I read The Cinderella Deal FIRST I have to say that this wasn't Jenny's best. HOWEVER I adore/worship this woman! *bows before the Goddess

The Vampire's Kiss - Cynthia Eden

Blurb~
William Dark is a monster. He is a vampire, a dark creature that feeds on blood and fear. He is exactly what Savannah Daniels needs.

A year ago, her twin brother and his wife were brutally murdered. Savannah swore a vow of vengeance against the man, the beast, that killed him. A beast that is now after her.

Savannah needs William’s help in order to keep her vow. She must convince him to transform her, to give her the kiss of the vampire, so that she will be strong enough to defeat the killer that is on her trail.
Savannah and William enter into an unholy alliance: He will transform her and see that she receives her justice. In return, she must be his companion, his mate, for eternity.

But, Savannah soon realizes that there is more at stake than just her life. Because once she tastes William’s kiss, she knows that she may be in jeopardy of losing her heart, as well. And she will have to put all of her trust, all of her faith, into the hands of a man who lost his soul centuries ago…

Another great one from Cynthia Eden! One think CE is great for giving you is action right away! You don't get any fooling around with this woman. This book is fast paced and keeps you on your toes! =)

Meet Savannah! Her main objective within the past few years is to avenge her brother and sister in laws gruesome death from a vampire. She knows being a human that she would be no match for a century old vampires strength but when her brothers killer starts to stalk her she knows she must find an answer somewhere. So what to do...what to do...AH HA! BECOME the monster that killed them! ;) Savannah decides to hunt down one of the most legendary vampires around, William Dark.

In enters William. William opens his door to a frail human woman but falls deeply at first sight. How to protect her? Send her away. This woman needs no part of his dark life! But whemn she asks the unthinkable...to kill her he can''t help but not let her go. Thats why he finally excepts to give her the kiss (being bitten 3 times then fed your sires blood will bring on the change) if and only if she stays with him forever as his companion.

Can Savannah really turn over the rest of her life to the type of monster who killed her brother? And if she does can she really beat a century old vampire as a new born???

Like I said CE really give you everything you want in a story! Hot lovin', GREAT fighting action and a romance to make you sigh! =) Savannah and Williams love was something special. I don't want to ruin all their steps in coming together but lets just say that once each of them open up to each other a beautiful relationship unfolds! Go ahead and grab this book (heck ANY of Cynthia's books in fact) b/c you wont be sorry!

Snippet~

You want this, don’t you, little one? His voice purred seductively, although his lips did not move. You came here for this, didn’t you? He began to gently suckle on her neck.

“Yes,” she whispered, as her arms lifted to clutch his shoulders and pull him closer to her body. Her eyes were tightly closed.

William drew back slowly, wondering about her motives, about her willingness to surrender to a monster. Then he remembered what she’d said. “You wanted me to kill someone for you.” It was a statement. What he had taken as a jest before suddenly seemed very serious. Who was this woman? And why did she seek the Angel of Death?

“Yes,” she whispered again, refusing to open her eyes.

Look at me. The command came unbidden. The full force of his will was behind the order. He would know what the woman in his arms wanted, what dangers she presented to him. Then he would deal with her. “Who do you want me to kill?”

Her lashes lifted slowly, languorously. Her breathing was ragged. Her chest rose and fell jerkily. “Me. I want you to kill me.”
