Devil of the Highlands - Lynsay Sands

Description~

They call him the Devil . . .

He is the most notorious laird of Scotland: fierce, cold, deadly . . . and maybe even worse. Yet Evelinde has just agreed to wed him. Anything, she thinks, is better than her cruel stepmother. Though Evelinde should be wary of the rumors, she can't help but be drawn to this warrior . . . for the Devil of the Highlands inspires a heat within her that is unlike anything she has ever known.

They may call him whatever they wish, but Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh, cares only for the future of his clan. He must find a wife, a woman to bear him sons and heed his commands. He has no need for beauty or grace, but one taste of his lovely bride's sweet lips and the sultry feel of her skin arouse an untamed passion. Perhaps there's more to marriage than he thought . . .

Evelinde lives a hard life with her wicked stepmother! After her poor father passed away Evelinde was forced to take on all the duties that the woman of the household should’ve fallen into. This story almost falls into the pace of Cinderella! Lol She gets abused by the stepmother and hasn’t married because her betrothed died years back. One day Evelinde was called to her stepmother and told she was to be married off…this excited Evelinde! BUT her excitement soon came to a halt when she found out her betrothed was none other than Devil of the Highlands Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh. Cullen has a horrible reputation but could anything be worse than staying in her current situation? Upset about her betrothed, Eve goes for a ride and ends up in the arms of a strange man! She’s very intrigued when he kisses her and even more when she finds out HE is Cullen her betrothed! Surely this “Devil of the Highlands” can’t be as bad as his reputation…or can he?

This book was great! Ive never read Lynsay Sands before and actually haven’t heard much about her either. I seen this book in Target one night and was craving a kilt to light my fire! Lol And this book surely did the trick!

I just loved how Eve (they didn’t call her that in the book but it’s the most odd name to type so Im sticking with Eve) met Cullen out riding and they ended up in each others arms! EPP! He kissed and caressed and I totally didn’t expect that so soon in the book! This was only foreshadowing for a GREAT sex life that was to come! Lol He was so tender with Eve and every time they made love, it was full of emotion!

Eve and Cullen also had a great relationship…one wouldn’t think that at first though! After quickly marrying Eve he whisked her away to his castle to keep her away from her evil stepmother! So many of his actions in the book made your heart melt…of course it wasn’t until AFTER b/c the man never explained his actions but you know lots of men are like that aren’t they?!?! Lol Let me tell you this man was the KING of not talking and that brought on a problem in the marriage…BUT as many relationships go…it’s the fighting that brings upon peace.

One aspect of the story that I didn’t see coming was all the mystery! See Cullen has a bad rep b/c there was so much death on his life that everyone figured he did it himself to get his position. Well he wasn’t a man who cared much for gossip so he let it go, but when his wife starts to have TOO MANY life threatening situations he realizes he needs to get to the bottom of the murders. I don’t want to spoil who the actual killer is BUT Ill tell you that there wasn’t one person who didn’t cross my mind. I thought everyone was the killer at one point! Lol To me that makes a great mystery…when you just have no clue. And let me tell you I was surprised when I realized who it was!

Snib Bit~
“There is blood on my gown. You must have cut your head when you fell.” The position put her upper body inches above his face and Cullen started getting that closed in feeling again until he was distracted by the breasts jiggling before his eyes. The chemise she wore was very thin and presently wet, he noted, which was no doubt what made it see-through. Cullen found himself staring at the beautiful, round orbs with fascination, shifting his eyes left and right to continue to do so when she turned his head from side to side to search out the source of the blood. “Calm yerself,” was what he said. Cullen didn’t believe in wasting words. However, it was doubtful if she understood what he said since his words came out muffled by the nipple suddenly filling his open mouth. Despite his intentions not to scare her, when he realized it was a nipple in his mouth, he couldn’t resist closing his lips around it and flicking his tongue over the linen-covered bud. In the next moment, he found pain shooting through his head once more as he was dropped back to the ground.

LMAO! I loved that part...they had JUST MET! And after that comes a SUPER GOOD PART! lol

Over all this entire book was great! Like I said it was my first LS book and I know Ill be going back for more! Any recommendations on which ones to head to first??

I give this book a total of...

This was a good one. I love LS's historicals because they are good but they've got the humor too. She does great serious right along side humorous.
