Strange Bedpersons - Jennifer Crusie

Blurb~
Tess Newhart knows her ex-boyfriend Nick Jamieson isn't the right guy for her. He's caviar and champagne; she's take-out Chinese pot stickers. He's an uptight Republican lawyer; she was raised in a commune. He wants to get ahead in business; she just wants…him. But there's no way Tess will play second fiddle to his job.

Yet somehow she finds herself agreeing to play his fiancée on a weekend business trip that could make or break Nick's career. And while he's trying to convince Tess that he needs her in his respectable world, Tess is doing her best to keep her opinions to herself and her hands off Nick.

Everyone knows I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Crusie...but to me this book was a bit of a hiccup. =/ I must say the biggest thing I have to complain about...to me its like a low budget Cinderella Deal. If you read my review of The Cinderella Deal you'll see that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Strange Bedpersons however is just short of enjoyment in my eyes!

So like I said these two stories are VERY similar...Originally brought together by quirky similarities one weekend things quickly took a turn for the worse when Tess noticed Nick being solely driven by his need to make partner with his law firm. Tess broke things off yet a very persistent Nick needs her help.

Nick needs Tess...Tess has a heart too big for her britches and decides to help her ex impress his boss by playing the fiance. Obviously things unfold...Nick is uptight, Tess is outgoing yet they fall for each other. But can Nick let go of the drive to be MORE? Will Tess let her heart fall again for a man that could very well want to change everything she is and stands for???

Was this book good...well ya, it was ok to me. I mean it's Jenny Crusie after all. BUT BUT BUT bc I read The Cinderella Deal FIRST I have to say that this wasn't Jenny's best. HOWEVER I adore/worship this woman! *bows before the Goddess

Rory Kincaid has everyone talking...and the women swooning.

When the two are caught on film in a distinctly compromising position, Jilly agrees to pose as his fiancee - at least until his reputation gets back in order.
But neither of them counted on love...

You know...I read this book last week and at the time was like 'ok Im digging this' but now looking back I notice that it wasnt all the greatest...it was just ehh...kinda passing the time.

Its your typical eccentric woman falling for the uptight rich guy. She teaches him to let go and have the life he REALLY wants and not the one everyone else wants him to have. Rory wants to live down his families scandalous life so he sets out to be a politician. When Rory gets caught in a compromising position with Jilly he is forced to fake an engagement but will Jillys past interfere with his goals? The big question is in the end what will Rory choose...Jilly or his career?

Theres also another story on the side...this one is WAY more interesting and personally I think it shouldve been the headliner! Rorys brother fell in love with his grandfathers young and beautiful wife YEARS ago. After she produced an heir he kicked her out on her fanny...when the two are face to face after all these years sparks start to fly...but how will it all play out when theres not only a past to overcome but a child she hasnt seen since birth?!?!

Like I said this book was just meh for me...very predictable and sketchy at parts/ I do love this author but I must say that this one didnt lite my fire! ;o) After reading it I felt like Ive read it before. I guess at the time I needed something more fresh. SO if this wouldnt be something you've read before you may enjoy it way better than I did! So give it a shot and let me know what you think!

Tempt the Devil - Anna Campbell

Description~
Any man in London would worship her. Yet Olivia is, quite frankly, bored of them all. Despite her many dalliances, she's never felt true passion, never longed for any lover's touch . . . until Julian, London's most notoriously wanton rake, decided to make her his mistress.

From the moment he first saw her, Julian knew he must possess her. And when he discovers her greatest secret, a scandal that could ruin her reputation and end her career, he knows just the way to use this damaging information to his most delightful advantage. He offers Olivia a deal with the devil: he'll keep her secret . . . if she allows him the chance to show her true ecstasy.

But Olivia must be careful, for Julian has a secret of his own: he will not rest until she is completely, shamelessly his.

Overall this was an ok book. I had never read Anna Campbell before and this was a start.

The idea of the book was good…Olivia has a horrible past (I don’t wanna spoil) that has left her cold to the touch. She has never yearned for a man, yet she is the BEST courtesan there is! While searching for her next man she meets the infamous Julian, Earl of Erith. Julian is instantly intrigued by Olivia and soon makes plans so make her his mistress. Once things are said and done, Olivia reluctantly agrees and moves into her new house the very next day! As some times goes on Julian begins to open up Olivia and find out her dark past and the reason she does not feel pleasure with any man. So he makes it a personal promise that he will not take her to his bed until BOTH of them can be fulfilled! At the same time Olivia is also finding out that Julian has a past and that hes come back to make amends. It turns out his wife died years ago and he was so distraught that he left his daughter and son to grow up with their aunt. Now he wants to re-claim his parentage and fulfill his duties at his daughters wedding. Just that alone is a hard task…but when you throw in a scandal with a famous mistress, it soon becomes impossible!

Can Olivia get over her dark past and learn to feel? Can Julian win her love…and keep it???

Now don’t get me wrong I liked the book decently enough and I know Id read more of AC’s work its just something didn’t fit right in the story. It was like on paper it looks like it would make for the perfect book…but unfortunately for me it wasn’t.

I loved how the whole mistress aspect was different. I liked how she went from man to man…like it was her source of income. And when she was with Julian I loved that she was literally repulsed by him touching her (b/c of her past). In a lot of stories the author tends to just automatically make them fall for eachother and in this book that didn’t happen. She was scared and him helping her heal helped their relationship along. I also loved how he really had to overcome what she was in order to really be with her. If he couldn’t accept her for what sh used to be then she didn’t want anything to do with him. It was great!

Something I didn’t like was just that there was an odd feel to the book. I felt disconnected with the characters. I felt that Olivia being a mistress kinda didn’t fit once you found out her past and that didn’t sit right with me. Julian was an ok hero but some of the things he did…like leaving her b/c he couldn’t marry her (all b/c she USED to be a courtesan) didn’t feel right and then at the end (SPOILER) how he comes and asks her to marry him b/c he has some special license…it wasn’t “OMG how could I leave you”, its was “hey guess its ok now”. Idk it was just weird. Maybe the flow of the story or the awkwardness of everything had some hand in it as well?!? Like I said it’s hard to pinpoint an exact reason why the story didn’t work for me but it just didn’t.

Slightly Married - Mary Balogh

Description~

Having promised a dying officer that he'll protect the man's sister "no matter what," Col. Aidan Bedwyn calls on Eve Morris to offer his condolences and aid. Still in mourning over the death of her coal miner father a year earlier, Eve now stands to be turned out onto the street due to a peculiar condition of her father's will. Only by marrying can she save her home, which she shares with several orphans, an impoverished aunt and a staff composed mainly of outcasts. Ever one to honor his promises, Aidan proposes, and Eve accepts. The two plan to separate after saying their vows, but Aidan's eldest brother, the Duke of Bewcastle, insists that Eve be presented to the queen. To Aidan's amazement, Eve proves she has the mettle to stand up to his haughty family.

Ok i wanna make this quick because I was really excited about this book and it kinda let me down...

We open up the story meeting Col. Adian Bedwyn. Walking around the battlefield after war has died down he comes upon a man named Percy Morris that saved his very life years ago. Percy's dieing wish is that Adian go to his only sibling and deliver the bad news of his death and protect her from whats to come. Bedwyn agrees and soon sets off to find Eve Morris, Percys sister. Eve doesn't take the news well and refuses Adains help. She finds out though that she will loose her land that houses not only her but her two adopted children and servants that are her only familyleft, if she doesn't marry. Adian, never being one to shy away from duty offers his hand to Eve and she reluctantly accepts it. They planned on parting forever but when Adains brother steps in everything goes out the back door. Adains brother wants Eve to be presented to the Queen and accept her cuties and Adians wife. Can Eve take on the ton...let alone the Queen?!?! And what about Adians family, the Bedwyns? Will Adian fall for the one woman he never thought would awaken his heart?

Ok this is a REALLY good story line but it pretty much fell flat. I REALLY considered NOT finishing this book. I hate that i feel this way because i really enjoyed her other book I read which was 'First Comes Marriage'. to me there just wasn't enough content to the storyline. MB spent too much time describing the surroundings or what the character was feeling to really pay attention to the story. Now some might say..."Those two things are very important in a good book" and i agree with you BUT if you do it so much that it almost feels like you pull out of the story that's just not good.

I enjoyed the relationship with Eve and Adian and the ending was sweet, but I really felt like they couldve done without a lot that was in the story and put more interaction between the two. I really enjoyed seeing Adian with Eve's kids. Theres just something about a man with children that's just warming but I mean honestly you can probably tell I'm really trying to pick out so good points to a not-so-good book.

I WILL read the second book because I believe she is worth it and sometimes in a series the first book is the weak length but after that no more second chances on the series.

Overall this book wasn't something I would recommend and I hope she redeems herself in Slightly Wicked...has anyone out there read these books??? Can I get some in-sight?

PS- Off to read the 2nd Dark Hunter book Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon...hope it lifts my down in the dumps spirits :o/
